The Inaugural Issue

In the conceptual ethers for many years and finally materializing—

Mergoat Mag is a publication dedicated to investigating the contemporary ecological situation of Southern Appalachia and the cultures shaped by it. Our charter issue will explore the expansive theme of ~hillbilly ecologies after the apocalypse~. Here, the concept of apocalypse can be approached literally—in the sense of the intersecting ecological, economic, social and medical crises currently swamping the region—or metaphorically. We are currently calling for submissions that explore the broad ecological situation of Southern Appalachia and anything encompassing this theme. We are inviting all creative submissions, such as: poetry, art, photography, fiction, comics and theory. We encourage submissions from various disciplines: biology, ecology, philosophy, sociology, political economy, and others. For longer non-fiction pieces, please submit an abstract.
